Dr. Ruth Westheimer is/was a "piece of work." I think she has a PhD, but it's not in Human Sexuality, though she worked in counseling/public health matters in NYC before becoming famous in her mid-50s, or something like that. How many times "around the block" has she been that she can tell/teach people how to have "good sex?" Regardless, it's impossible to listen to her without busting a gut. Talking about someone finding a good market "niche." In that regard, she's a genius. (One of the viewer comments about her differentiation of advice for Jews/non-Jews is kind of interesting...why even bother to make that distinction?)

No, but I remember Dr. Drew and Adam Carolla. What a pairing. Only in LA. I credit them for keeping me awake on some long drives on the freeway that I had to make at night.

I can agree with what has been said thus far, but Dr. Ruth was a bellwether in a day/age when nothing sexual could be/would be said without censorship. She was very frank in how she spoke, and while I also agree marketing made her well-known, she fit into a zeitgeist of experience in her time. I think she stands out a bit more than many other media personalities, if only because she could speak in clinical terms about what people needed to hear.

Yep. She spoke about sex in a pretty clinical way. Answered questions many folks had, I guess. Again, much of this type talk was censored then.

Dang I thought the poll was about that other older lady whose name I apparently can't remember. I would have voted differently.
Dr. Ruth was sort of funny I suppose but I didn't like her. She was more this is the way it is direct, came off a little abrasive to me anyway. And I get sick of hearing about sex and then there is the whole jewish, jewish NYC thing, which while fun and entertaining in small doses...well I guess I'm just really tired of it.
