He played football for the Detroit Lions but is most famous for his two big acting roles, Mongo in "Blazing Saddles", the bad cop in Porky's, and as the dad in Webster. His wife in Webster was also in Porky's as Cherry Forever. They were husband and wife off screen and she's still with him today despite his dementia from head injuries from playing football and now his kidneys have failed. His doctors say he only has days left to live. He's 77 years old.

I was very sad to read of this. They sure have had a long marriage too.

Dementia is very hard on the entire family. The family clings to those fragments of moments in which the sufferer remembers some moment from the past or a family member's name. The more it progresses, the more fleeting those moments become.
