For those who live in California and have watched California Gold, a great show about our state has passed away. RIP.

Sad. Been watching that guy since I was a kid. "California Gold" and "Visiting with Huell Howse" were some of my favorite shows. Made me proud to call LA home because of all the wonderful and amazing things here.

RIP Mr Howser. Thank you for sharing the beauty, magic and magesty of Los Angeles and California with the world. You were a National Treasure.

Really sad to hear of his passing, enjoyed his show for many years. He had a great gift of taking the simple things in our daily lives and produce an interesting interview/story.

I hate to hear this. I used to love watching his show on PBS. He was very informative. I found out a lot of valuable information about Southern California from Mr. Howser.

R.I.P.

He's definitely been an asset to our great state of California, and his exposés have been so informative and interesting. I loved the show he did about Angeleno Heights. Shame that he's gone so soon, RIP HH.

I loved Huell! My DVR has many episodes of California's Gold that I enjoyed so much I could not delete them. I watched his show at least a couple of times a week.
My favorite episode was "Yosemite Fire Falls".
He had such an enthusiastic personality. I will miss him, but he will live on forever in reruns.

Was he really that big of a talent? I've watched his shows and don't find him to be that extraordinary. If not for his burly body and overdone southern accent, I doubt that his style would be indistinguishable from anyone else doing the same thing. He also should have "come out of the closet" and supported other gay men who were dying of AIDS in the 80s, 90s or denied civil rights through the passage of Prop 8. He might have been a nice man ( all accounts say that he was), but he lacks any hero status or significant talent that everyone seems to praise him for.
RIP Huey.

Some classic Huell. This guy can make ANYTHING seem interesting and fascinating.

I loved going to Famers Market as a kid. For some reason, it just seemed better before the Grove was built. I still love it, but it just had some special magic as with so many othe places in LA/California and Huell brought all of that magic into our living rooms with his shows.

Other than the fact he never uttered "I'm Gay" during any of his interviews, you have no idea what he did or what he supported off camera.
