It wasn't hostile, the woman who is claiming it was, worked for her for 3 whole years, why now? Especially when she told Deen, she'd go to police if Deen didn't pay her more??????? So, yeah, they're going to make up all kinds of stories....

And don't hollar at me, I mean everyone is using the n word like it is a crime, illegal, and it isn't....

and what she is being sued over and what really happened will come out in the wash, believe me....

the woman working for her wanted more and saw a way to get it....sue happy, at the cost of everyone else's life and reputation....

Let's continue to show our ignorance by declaring that Southern moms MOST LIKELY used the word. I have been to Chicago and heard the n word on the streets and also in New York, but I have not heard it where I live in the deep South. This of course does not mean it is not said in the South. It just shows that racism exists everywhere, even though it is wrong. Not all Southerners or Southern moms use or used the word, anymore than all Northerners are brash and unmannerly. You can't lump everyone together.

I am proud Paula Deen supporter.
Me to, and I'll support her all the way, I was never a fan of her show or her food, but I have heard what a kind person she is, and what she has done for others, and I tell you, once again, all said and done, she is going to come out on top...and she has got a whole lot of people backing her, including Blacks....

boy are they ever....and I've been born and raised in the North...I've had a lot of southern friends who tell me the same thing....

yes, I've been to Missouri, Oaklahoma, Texas, GA, SC, KY, NC, Mississippi, and others, and I cannot tell you how gracious and what ladies southern women are, not all of course, but the general culture....

I remember one friend of mine, from LA, told me, "seems the only time northerners talk to you, is when they want to find out who you are and where your from". And it was so true.

Now, Not all northerners are horrible people, but the general public as a whole are much colder people. I remember moving away, far up north years ago, and it took a long long time for people to become friends...5 years....you move down south and they couldn't be more hospitable....and wouldn't believe how my son and his wife and daughter have been helped so much by southern hospitality.

Once a black friend told me she experienced more racism in the North than she ever did in the South. This is not at all unusual complaint from black who move North thinking it will be better only to find it much worse.

wow, I love that man, what an insight, what inspiration, understanding and intelligence....

thank you no kudzu for sharing....

and by the way, you and I have not always agreed on issues...but want to say, I do admire your spunk and willingness to defend your beliefs, b/c your beliefs are who you are as a human being, don't allow anyone to take them from you...as we grow older, our priorties change, but don't ever "compromise your identity"....is what my mama used to say, and she was right.

yup, so so true. and a shame....and whats more is, do you notice how a lot of northerns cop an attitude, that if you don't think and believe as they do, your wrong? They do not have the concept to realize, that each of us own our own thoughts and beliefs...there is no right or wrong in that, it is in fact our identities and what our parents taught us to believe, and I feel badly for people who cannot see into that...?

"Hostile work environment" is the legal term, it doesn't mean people are displaying hostility in the most literal sense of the word.

Again, THIS IS NOT ALL ABOUT HER USE OF THE N WORD. That is the pop culture chatter because that gets the attention for being sensational. But the lawsuit WAS ABOUTWAY MORE THAT SAYING THE WORD 20 YEARS AGO.

Someone was going to work at her establishment and hearing sexist and racist jokes and statements all day. Would you mind if your boss showed you porn at work? Can you see why someoneelse would mind? That's the type of thing they were accused of, AND THEY'VE ALREADY ADMITTED TO SOME OF IT.

And more than one woman has come out about it, apparently?

I don't mean to shout, it's just that I don't feel you are actually seeing anything outside the n word. There was more going on here.

I get that people are sensitive to "political correctness" and what they perceive to be double standards, but I don't think this is the case to fall on the sword over.

As one poster mentioned there certainly are a lot of lies, and not all of them have come from Paula Deen. The woman who claimed to have biracial relatives and therefore felt uncomfortable in her work environment, in fact, was referring to her partner's niece who isn't even black--she's white and Hispanic. Oh, and her partner hasn't even seen her niece or sister in at least five years. Hmmmm......

Notwithstanding Bubba's sexual harassment charges, I think I was right in my earlier post about people coming out of the woodwork to shaker her down.
