Omar Sharif, was a very dignified presence on the screen. He was a handsome man, and I liked him most in Dr. Zhivago when I fell in love with that strikingly beautiful Julie Christie. Sharif lacked the intensity of Christie, Peter O'Toole, Montgomery Clift, and Marlon Brando IMO. He was not as great as Gregory Peck, Henry Fonda, or Sidney Poitier. But he is memorable as a handsome, dignified man of quiet quality.
Sad to hear of his passing, yet another person being taken away from those who love him by that damn Alzheimer's disease.
Actor Omar Sharif, best known for his roles in classic films Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago, has died aged 83.
Egypt-born Sharif won two Golden Globe awards and an Oscar nomination for his role as Sherif Ali in David Lean's 1962 epic Lawrence of Arabia.
He won a further Golden Globe three years later for Doctor Zhivago.
Earlier this year, his agent confirmed he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
His agent Steve Kenis said: "He suffered a heart attack this afternoon in a hospital in Cairo."
Mr Sharif was a big fan of a small time soccer team in England. Hull City is not big league soccer, but he was a real fan, and would fly in to see games. Last time only last year. He was from a time when film stars were real characters. His dying is a real loss of a legendary figure.
He was a fine actor and yes sadly another fine actor leaving us . These so called stars of today cannot act Im sorry if that offends anyone but they are not the caliber of those such as Omar Shariff , Henry Fonda , Gregory Peck , John Wayne etc .... No one seems to have the acting talent of those fine individuals that are leaving us . RIP Mr Shariff . Hopefully one day we will be able to say goodbye to alzheimers and cancer and those nasty crappy diseases that are killing us .
