I remember seeing Phil on some late-night talk show back in the early 90s (?) talking about his plans to become an American citizen. I knew he was from Canada, but I assumed he moved here as an adult to further his career. In fact he moved to California with his family as a young boy.

Such an incredible talent... he was so great on SNL and I loved News Radio (own it on DVD)

It's so sad to think about what we missed out on because of his crazy wife.

Phil was great. His Sinatra talk show was hilarious especially.

I remember hearing about this while we were moving our office one day.. One of the people who worked there said he heard it on the radio and said he couldn't remember the guy's name, but he was on SNL.. I started naming the people and Phil was so far down the list.. Just couldn't imagine it happening to him.

Fans of Futurama won't be surprised that Zapp Branigan was written specifically for Phil, and Billy West does the voice in a Hartman-style in tribute.
