Richard Simmons has disappeared from public life in recent years. While many of us would like to think the bubbly fitness guru is enjoying retirement and sweatin' to the oldies in private, his friends tell a much sadder, darker tale in a New York Daily News feature published Saturday.
According to interviews with Simmons' friends, he has been cutting off contact with them and many suspect he is under the control of his management team and housekeeper.
I have never been able to stand this guy.. Though some of his Letterman appearances were really good.. I ASSUME he was in on the joke there, if not.. Dave is even more a genius than I thought. But, I certainly don't wish ill towards him.
I thought it was telling that he wasn't in the 'final shows' of Letterman.
I've always thought there was some serious mental issues with him. So, this disappearance/reclusiveness doesn't surprise me a whole lot. It always seemed that his bubbly persona was compensation for something.
I was reading about this story and it sounds like he may be suffering from dementia, or another illness and people are taking advantage. He was a high energy person and smart and something is wrong here. This sounds similar to what happened to Casey Kasem. Hope someone goes in and finds out whats going on with Mr. Simmons.
I used to get a kick out of Richard Simmons. I used to find the commercials "Sweatin' To The Oldies" comical. He was doing quite well for himself then, wasn't he?
It's horrible how this could have happened, but then elder abuse, abuse of those who are mentally or physically impaired certainly exists.
Richard Simmons is an angel walking amongst us....
I posted this previously, then rethought it.
I've met many famous people, celebs, athletes, etc.
I've worked w/ them & held conversations with them...
Not a big deal.
When I met Richard Simmons a few years back-
He literally had me starstruck, lol
He had no security, no entourage & was just the warmest
most caring, down to Earth celeb I've ever met.
He held my hands in his, looked deep into my eyes & talked softly
about many things he's witnessed....
We both started to get tears in our eyes...
He is a beautiful soul.......
When I consider the millions of people he's helped, inspired & uplifted I hope
he realizes how much he is loved by countless people all around the World
He seems like a genuinely kind person, and I hope hangers-on (whether his live-in housekeeper or "friends) aren't taking advantage of him and isolating him from others. The poor guy has no family.
