I have tickets to see them Jan 22 here in DFW. Wonder if he was touring. Hopefully this does not affect their show dates.
2002 was the last year that Ray toured with the band, he had other health issues going on before that. I'm saddened by this news but new it was coming, as this news was related to Moody fans through various chat sites and their fan club for the last several months that he was in treatment for prostrate cancer.
I've seen the Moodies in 5 decades they've been my #1 band and it was their second lp that won me over and it was because of two songs penned by Ray; "Dr. Livingston I Presume' and "Legend Of A Mind." I loved his baritone voice and the fact that he and Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson popularized the flute in classic rock. He was one of the original Moodies, along with Denny Laine, Clint Warwick, Mike Pinder, and Graeme Edge, who still drums with the band.
I only wished Ray could have hung in there a few more months so he could appear with the band at the 2018 Rock and Roll HOF presentations but it wasn't to be. I also wished that producer Tony Visconti could have worked in a little more input from Ray on their last few studio lp's. What the band had going with their first producer, Tony Clarke, was truly something special. Their lp's from Days Of Future Passed to Seventh Sojourn was known as the "core seven" to longtime Moodies fans. It was an incredible run of great, great recordings in the span of just over five years.
Ray Thomas will be sorely missed-his beautiful baritone voice, his great flute playing, his great songs. A classy man also. Thanks Ray! RIP, sir.
Sad to hear. Very talented musician and their sound was very unique. I was not born when they and other classic rock bands were first getting famous, yet I still think they don't make them like this anymore. That classic sound was thought provoking, rocking and just magic. Would have loved to have been in a small club seeing these guys doing an early career show. RIP Ray Thomas.
