Who Is Jerry Van Dyke? 'Coach' Actor, Dick Van Dyke Brother Dead At 86

Jerry Van Dyke, the younger brother of famed actor Dick Van Dyke, died Friday at 86-years-old, according to TMZ. The actor-comedian reportedly died from a decline in health following his involvement in a car accident that occurred two years ago.

Shirley Ann Jones, the comedian's wife, confirmed to the news outlet that her husband died at the couple's ranch in Arkansas as she was by his side. Dick Van Dyke, 92, is said to have visited his brother and Jones at their ranch during the Christmas holiday.

Van Dyke made his television acting debut on his older brother's show, "The Dick Van Dyke Show," where he helmed several guest role appearances as Rob Petrie's brother, Stacey. Later in his acting career, he famously starred as Assistant Coach Luther Van Dam on the popular ABC sitcom "Coach" alongside Craig T. Nelson from 1989 to 1997.

"Coach" was one of my favorite sit-coms.

My prayers go to the family...

Luther when he got hired for a head coach position... didn't take long for him to have an effect..

His brother has been in poor health for a very long time; he even talked about it a year ago on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast, said that he wasn't doing well. Even then, the situation sounded especially dire. I think he was prepared for it.

Coach has started airing again on Decades TV. My Mother the Car has been playing every Sunday morning for the past few months, although I'm not sure if with the new year, the schedule has changed.

This one really tugs at my heart strings. I know he was older ( as in elderly) and probably had an excellent life. I hope so. He just seemed genuinely kind and nice. I want to think he was. R.I.P. Mr Van Dyke and thank you for the laughs.

Lol. When I read your comment "I know he was older...," I thought that you thought he was older than Dick.
