Charlotte Rae gave me many laughs over the years as Mrs Edna Garrett on different strokes and the facts of life . She passed yesterday at the age of 92 . A good long life im sure . I remember once she said she always was worried about gary coleman and the way his parents treated him. Well rest in peace edna garrett and little Arnold . May you both find comfort in the Good Lords loving care .
Mrs. Garett was the glue which held the show together for so long. I liked her voice and how she kept the girls in line. Enjoyed that one episode where the girls messed up bad and she put them to work in the cafeteria, or her maneuvering the dean/budget director guy on behalf of the girls, she was witty, kind and stern only when she had to be.
Always liked the interactions between the polar opposite characters of Joe and Blair. Liked the episode where Joe eloped and I think Mrs Garett found her and talked her out of it, can't remember for sure but liked the tough girl on a motorcycle image she projected on the outside, and a softer person emerged in later seasons. Blair's image softened a bit from that self indulged 80's girl she started out as, she played that part well. Natalie wasn't much of a looker but funny and I think she did a much better job with her character, as say Tina Youthers on Family Ties. I liked the one where Tootie bought some weed and got caught, she was a good character too. I could stand to watch a reboot of this show, not expecting too much from it, but I will check it out.
RIP Charlotte Ray
