I heard Tickle Me Elmo got blacklisted a while back because he was a little to 'handsy'

As you may imagine some of Kirk Cameron's views don't go down well in Hollywood/the entertainment industry. But still being as that may the man still finds work behind and in front of the camera (mostly these days in either independent or Christian films). Nor is the man in any danger of starvation with an estimated net worth of nearly $25 million.

All that being said the only thing "Hollywood" seems to have on Mr Kirk Cameron is his religion and views. Otherwise some could take a few lessons from the guy.

The Camerons have been married for over thirty years, have six wonderful children and are very active in their lives and seeing to it as best possible they came up as responsible and well adjusted.

Have always wondered why "Hollywood" gets so worked up about Evangelical Christians, but yet give that loony some kind of piece of "religion" Scientology they largely belong to a free pass.

Many of the "disappeared" managed to get "blacklisted". I'd list sources but rarely have much confidence in Hollywood gossip media.

Celebrities used to get blacklisted for suspicions of Communist ties. Now they are sometimes blacklisted for things like nationalism and/or conservatism. The world turns?

Hollywood's most blacklisted celebrity? Could it be James Woods? There are many.

There are a couple of terms that get thrown around be mean different things.

Blacklisted isn't the same as "box office poison".

The former was a concerted and in conspiracy effort by major Hollywood studios and entertainment industry to deny persons work; to wit "black or grey lists". If your name was on either no one would hire you. This of course turned out to be illegal and by the 1960's was largely over.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollyw...1957–present)

Box office poison are actors for various reasons are on the outs with public and thus their films don't (or won't) draw numbers.

All this and you've actors who have either burned too many bridges and or have developed a reputation for being difficult and or impossible to work with.

In a sad and bizarre way Marilyn Monroe's death when and how it happened cemented her fame, this at time where her "star" days were numbered if not out right over.

With the demise of studio system of old there isn't any power to totally blacklist an actor anymore. If this or that director, producer, studio or whatever thought a certain actor was "it" for a certain role, and was sure he or she could still pull an audience, then they will get hired.

Kirk Cameron probably still has a touch of radioactivity from his actions during Growing Pains.

It doesn't help your cause for employment to call producers of your show pornographers. And getting a costar fired because she posed in Playboy..

He did admit that he, perhaps, went a little overboard and seemingly buried the hatchet with most of his "Pains" co stars.

Maybe over that incident; but there is fresh ammunition for some: https://www.eonline.com/news/298726/...-rights-battle

I do wonder about people that were popular and then are hardly seen. Stephen Caffrey and Gary Sandy are two that come to mind.

If an actor is an alcoholic or drug addict or just a pain in the arse, they won't get hired. Actors are easily replaced, no matter how good they are.

Oh I don't know; if the studio, producers or whoever thinks said actor is the only one who will bring in the bucks, then they will put up with quite a lot.

Marilyn Monroe along with not a small amount of other actors/actresses in Hollywood history had a reputation for being "difficult", but when things worked it was magic, so people put up with the antics. That is until someone finally says "enough"; which is what happened to MM in the end with her final picture. Though by that time it was debatable how much of "it" MM still had, that is how well would the film have done at box office to make it all worth the effort.

When you get right down to it this goes across all the performing arts. Stage actors/actresses, opera singers, etc... All have known and still know "divas" or whatever other baggage they bring with them (drugs, booze, temperament, etc...). Again people put up with it because said "star" is bankable, that is until someone finally says *Basta*.

Kathleen Battle at the height of her opera career was fired from the Metropolitan Opera and banned from returning by then director over issues related to being a "pain in the arse" if you will.
