Back in the early 80's my new wife and I took one of the first Disney Cruise's. Package was three days at Disney and a four day cruise. Price was right and off we go. We were one of the few without kids. First night on the ship we hit the bar before dinner and who is at the bar but Rip Taylor the entertainment for the cruise. My wife hadn't a clue who he was but I knew him and made a big deal about being in his presence. GREAT GUY. We ended up spending the next four days hanging with him. Born in '54 I knew all the early 60's comedians and he had tales and stories on everyone. My wife sat next to Alan King at the US Open tennis tournament and he spent 20 minutes on that. Never a "Top Act" he opened for Diller, Dangerfield, Sammy Davis, Tom Jones, etc.

Didn't take much to treat a young married couple like royalty but Rip was there and did just that. Here we are almost 40 years later and I am smiling and saddened at his passing. Hopefully he's looking down and remembering the young couple he met years ago and is pleased they remember the experience fondly.
