Maybe they're making a big deal of it b'c she's got football players shoulders and it's not the most flattering look for her. The media loves to critique everyone in the limelight--always has, always will. There are no sacred cows.
The press hated Bush from day one and so they did their best to not say anything positive about anyone even remotely connected to Bush, including his wife. The press loved Obama before he even won the nomination and they've gone out of their way to make him and his wife look good even when they say or do stupid things like "for the first time in my adult life I'm proud of my country" or "57 states" or when Obama tried to find the door to the white house (when bush tried to open a locked door the press made fun of him,...let's see the press open a door that is locked). Laura dressed appropriately for her age, body type, and status. About the only time the press goes gagga over the first lady's outfits is when they like that first lady. Remember Hillary and her pants suits and Jackie Kennedy? Neither were dressed any better or worse than past firstladies. Only difference is they were someone the press already liked and went out of their way to find something to complement them on,...same as they're doing with the Obamas. This is nothing more than butt kissing.

I never thought that all blacks dress well. Dance I'll give you. But that T.J. Maxx welfare, gangster wannabe, too colorful crap many of them wear is not dressing well.

An overgeneralization would be saying all. I said many. Unfortunately where I live, you see more many than some or a few. I am inteligent enough to know that it is different by area, so I guess that could have been a bit ignorant on my part. I do however apologize if I offended you. I certainly was not trying to. I am simply stating my preference. Sometimes I can be a bit opinionated. But I do see your point how one might take offense to what I said. To each his own I guess. I suppose everyone has their own taste in fashion. But I would not tell them how to speak. I think anymore as a nation, we've bordered on being too politically correct. There is no room for error. But once again, I will try to be more sensitive next time.

A sleeveless dress in June makes sense. Sleeveless dresses in February/cold weather are inappropriate to me.
A sleeveless dress is appropriate in the winter if the wearer has no problems with it and obviously she didn't. Many designers have sleeveless dresses and tops in their fall/winter collections so I do not see why its such a big deal.
Michelle is a beautiful woman. Some will argue that beauty has to come in one standard only but I doubt that Vouge would have her on the cover if she were "fugly" as one posted put it.
None of these same people would have bashed Barbara Bush or Laura Bush for their glaring lack of style and unattractiveness. Why is it OK to degrade Michelle?
Black women are held to a much higher standard when it comes to looks, style and beauty. We are scrutinized to the nth degree, especially by those who harbor jealousy. If you are a Black woman in the public eye (or a prominent position within a company) it is crucial to always be "on point" because there will be many who are ready and waiting to tear you down.
How is she attractive. Just because she dresses nice and is married to the president does not make her attractive. Even if she were the best dressed lady in the world, it still cannot change her face. She's not fat, I'll give you that, yet she isn't as fit as everyone makes her out to be. She is very below average in the looks department. You all can come on her and say how beautiful she is, but most of us can see for ourself. First lady or not she is by no means attractive. Fugly is the better word. It seems so many on here want to act dillusional and are quick to say that she is something she is not. I don't care if I am hated for this. Sometimes the truth just hurts. The women is just plain beat. It might sound mean. Oh well. But I am not gonna sit here and lie to you or myself claiming some women who got beat with the ugly stick one too many times is all beautiful or glamorous. Please spare me the political bullsh t!!! If someone is ugly, they are ugly. If she was good looking, I'd be the first to say, but she is not.

<shrug> I suppose I 'have a problem' with the wearing of sleeveless dresses in the winter. Is my government using my $ to heat all the buildings used by elected officials to an extravagant degree while I have to shiver in layers?

I never found Jackie O to be attractive in the slightest, but I understand why people consider her a style icon. Some people think Michelle is attractive and others don't. That's fine, style isn't based off of looks. She is the First Lady, not a playmate candidate.
