Yeah I think a lot of actors, until they are well established, will play it safe and take the easy paycheck rather than take a chance and expand their chops.
Michael Epps is another example.
I think she's pretty well established, plus she made that transition from sitcom to big screen that many others can't but it seems like she just never gets any good roles. I always like watching her though, except in movies like Daddy Day Care or Enemy of The State where she has such a small role.
Oh I'd like to add V.Fox to that list - with the exception of Kill Bill she's always the same
Natalyjones, thought Jamie Fox's charather was blind in his last movie? He is not the only actor that can sing. I think what happens to black actors in Hollywood they get type cast and there are few roles so people will take anything. On his TV show he also played a guys in the entertainment field so there we go again with the singing. I like Jamie and think he has a wide range of acting that we would be lucky to see.
I suspect his roles aren't far from his real character. he gets on my very last nerve
