The cellphone industry took a big hit today from Uncle Sam. Now you can "jailbreak" your iphone to use on any other network you want.

Jailbreaking alone won't let you use you your iPhone with other carriers. You also have to take the next step which is a carrier unlock. I don't think this ruling will change much, those people that wanted to jailbreak did so already without regard to the perceived legality.
But maybe soon we will see google voice in the app store...

Doesn't change anything. And jailbreaking is exploiting security holes in the iOS so it can run 3rd party apps, unlocking is using it on another carrier.

It still voids your warranty, they just can't sue you over it which they never did anyways.
