Was looking at the straight talk selection of phones the other day and noticed this model. I like the sliding qwerty keyboard feature but have heard some bad things about this model: low ringer volume, call quality, awkward camera button location, etc. Any truth to these problems? If so, are there any work-arounds? Or would I be better off choosing something like the r355c?

Thanks for any info.

Never even heard of it and I am "in the know" when it comes to phones.
Just took a look at it. Looks ok for a "normal" phone. I assume you aren't interested in the Internet on your phone?

I'm mainly just looking for a decent talk/text phone with the possibility of occasionally checking an email account. The $45/mo unlimited plan (straight talk) was too tempting to ignore, but the selection of phones is a bit limited.

With that phone and no data plan you won't be checking email on it.
But as far as "old style" phones go that looks like a good one. Samsung makes quality phones.

To the best of my knowledge, the $45 unlimited plan includes unlimited data.

I believe Straight Talk leases Verizon's network for its cdma phones. BTW, just got the phone. It seems to be a decent phone. Nothing fancy, but the qwerty keyboard works nicely. Reception and sound quality good, but not great. Two biggest gripes are camera button location makes it easy to accidently hit and low ringer volume. Found a work around for the low ringer volume: leaving phone in speaker mode for louder ring. Still trying to find out how to lock camera function.
