Hi all. I just have a plain old motorola now, and was planning on a free upgrade to a smartphone when my current contract was finished. Also, I thought that since I've been with T-Mobile for about 10 years that they might negotiate a better plan. But, no. Are there any other less expensive providers? Anyone have any experience with Cricket or Virgin Mobile?

I can tell you Virgin and Boost use Sprint's network

Cricket and Metro use their own and they're not as well built out here on the East Coast.

It depends where you are. Cricket is pretty much non-existant in Long Island and the city but it is big upstate. Metro PCS is okay in long island and the city. Sprint is also a good choice because their network is good coverage wise and they do alot involving family plans and employee discounts.

Yes, I just heard good things about Sprint's voice/text/data plan, I am looking into that as a less expensive option. Thanks!

It pays to do your homework and negotiate! T-Mobile worked out a way better deal for me and I am a satisfied customer now.

Unlimited text and data are now common among all the major players. But Sprint is the only one with unlimited mobile-to-mobile on it's cheapeast all-inclusive plan. No other provider has unlimited mobile-to-mobile and I think this is the biggest advantage of any of the providers aside from hardware selection.

Tmobile and Sprint tend to do that. AT&T and VZW usually have a take it leave it attitude.

You know, that's how the CSR was the day I posted it, and I let her know I was unhappy. She basically said, "Well I don't want you to cancel, but if you want to I'll certainly take care of that for you." (This is after telling me the package I was looking for didn't exist, mind you). That is NOT the T-Mobile I've been with for 10 years. They may not be the best in all respects, but I've actually recommended them to friends for their customer service. So, I was seriously thinking about not renewing my contract, when the next time I called I actually got a CSR that was willing to help me, transferred me to a specialist, and got me the deal I was looking for. Done! Better than any package the other providers are offering. I'm just annoyed I wasted time getting p*ssed because of that first rep who was so unhelpful.
