This story is making it's way from local news stations to CNN. Someone screened an old clip from a Charlie Chaplin movie, and found what appears to be a woman walking down the street using a cell phone in 1928 (?)
He rants on a bit, but it's an interesting clip to watch (youtube):
It's entirely possible that the lady is an apprehensive 'extra' and is using a pocket mirror or wallet or some other small tool as a poor attempt to cover up her face as she walks by in a scene. Perhaps a good number of people in the 1920's weren't entirely enthused about a movie camera in their immediate vicinity. Also, simultaneous walking and talking while trying to conceal one's face doesn't seem so out of the ordinary to me.
I sure won't claim to know for a fact, but I'm far from convinced there's any cellphone from what I'm seeing there.
If this woman is a time traveller then WHY is she wearing clothes from the 1920's? Wouldn't she be dressed in a similar fashion to how we dress today. The story is just ridiculous. I don't even think she is talking on a phone.
Unless she/he is from our future (where cell towers are no longer needed?), I find it hard to believe that someone could use our current cellphones without any cellphone towers to gain reception.
Well, Dr. Kaku says time travel is theoretically possible. So I guess it could be... Or it could be that he/she is talking to someone on a space ship, or it could be a piece of plastic, or he/she could be crazy.

Everyone knows that you dress as the period your in dictates, not the period your from, didn't you ever see Back to the Future?
It was already debunked on Slashdot and identified as an early model hearing aid (from Siemens or something like that).

Don't buy it. That time traveler (or one of his/hers cronies) went back in time after this video surfaced to invent this listening device at Siemens to throw us off the trail. It's a time-traveling conspiracy!!!1!
