Technically speaking, 4G is 100Mbps. Verizon is rolling out its "4G" at 12Mbps, in select areas now, TMobile's is 8 Mbps, AT&T's 3G is 8Mbps, and Sprint 4G is 6 Mbps, as I recall. So yes, in one sense it is marketing hype, but the speeds are mostly faster than 3G.
Where??? Or is it theoretical speeds?
I think my iPhone 4 touched 4Mbps once or twice but 99.99% of the time it's less than that. It's not slow or anything but it's no 8Mbps.
I am so glad that someone posted this...seeing those commercials over and over and over is so annoying. If there is such a thing as false advertising, the mythical 4G is it!
As the most advanced technologies currently defined for global wireless mobile broadband communications, IMT-Advanced is considered as “4G”, although it is recognized that this term, while undefined, may also be applied to the forerunners of these technologies, LTE and WiMax, and to other evolved 3G technologies providing a substantial level of improvement in performance and capabilities with respect to the initial third generation systems now deployed.

So, who has this now? No one. Just because it is in development doesn't give a company the right to claim it exists. Although some claim that they will roll this out by 2012, I would imagine like so many other projections, it will fall flat.
You obviously didn't read the press release carefully. Current WiMAX and LTE technology can now be called 4G according to the ITU. Sprint has such a network, as does Verizon Wireless. Even MetroPCS does. No waiting until 2012, it's here now.

They can call it whatever they want...but no network is better than any others...regardless of what any press release says. There is not one network that is worth paying more because it is supposedly faster. They all suck.
