Hey all, I just caught my son looking at things on the internet he should not. I know there are parental controls, but is there an app on my Android smart phone that will altert me if he is on unappropriate sites, and let me lock him out? Or at least be able to call him and tell him to get off the site. He uses our laptop with windows vista, and uses Mozilla for the browser. Must be some kind of cloud app...oh and free would be nice too. Once someone has an answer, please keep the tread open for others who want info on unknown apps they need.
I know Mobicip was working on something for smart phones. I'd look into them. There was/is another one, too: covenant eyes...or something like that.
Or, you can just root the phone and remove web and you tube capabilities all together.
Take this as you will, if your kid is going to be looking at porn or whatever, then he is going to find a way to find it. Don't turn this into a cat and mouse game. Communication and conversation will do more to keep your kid from looking at what-ever than any app could ever do. I'm not being preachy, just giving you the heads-up. I guaranty that some upset 17 year old out there is going to create an app or write a root code to circumvent these things.
I agree with K-Luv. Sounds like your kid may be fairly competent on a computer. If so, you are pretty much wasting your time as there are ways to work around any attempts you make to block sites. He will most likely take it as a challenge and a game. Your best bet would be to sit down and have a conversation and discuss the reasons why you do not agree with looking at such material.
You might want to look for something that has event notification. Most mobile phone providers attach an email address to your mobile phone number, so sending an email to that address will send you a text message. Some software may be able to give you the ability to send an email if your son types something racy or looks at certain websites.
