Bought an android from Metro Pcs. Although they exchanged it, lots of problems. Can' t use it at all in my own apt. (no signal). It defines my telephone service instead of being a "help" as an adjunct/emergency phone.
Can I use this phone with another service company, like Verizon? Metro Pcs will not answer their own phones, let me exchange for a simpler model, etc.

Try Page Plus Cellular dot com. They resell Verizon cellular. You can bring your own phone (most phones), I ported my Droid.
Cell phones and cell service work hand-in-hand. A great phone will not work with poor service. Great service does not work very well iwth poorly designed phones. I have a friend in Dallas who is a reltire telephone systems engineer. He fooled with Metro PCS for well over a year before he dropped it.
I have an iPhone 4 WiFi 3G and Apple Care. In my opinion it is risky to get an iPhone from anyone other than a national carrier because only Apple treats Apple issues wheras Verizon treats all Verizon phone issues except Apple. The same applies to every Apple dealer. AT&T/T-Mobile use the same GMS technology. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA technology. The technology depends upon which national service you can possibly switch to - or IF you can switch.
If no tower is near your apartment no phone will work. Tower signal strength + phone = usage.

All together. Moved to an apt closer to mntns; only Verizon
Is reliable here. 1 mile away there are more choices.
Bought Iphone 4. Love it's capabities but activating & restoring
Are grueling. Apple sr tech excellent. Found 2 who gave me email
& phone in pity. Overall, aside from the price, can't beat it.
Even sprint rep told me to go w/another carrier when moved
