So my family already has Verizon, but I'm looking to branch off and get my own phone and pay for my own plan.

I really want the iPhone, specifically for certain apps I can't get on a Droid, and also for the security that comes with it (I've had 3 friends with Droids end up with a virus through one of their apps... I don't know anyone with an iPhone who has that problem).

I want unlimited texting and a large amount of data (I'll be online with it a lot and I'll be downloading the Uno app and be playing with that a lot... plus I'll be using GPS and more, so...). I don't care so much about minutes. As long as I can call my family and friends, I don't actually do a lot of calling.

So my question is, should I just stay on my parents' plan and pay them for what I use, or should I get my own plan (and go to a different carrier)?

I have been using Sprint for about 10 years now. Plans are a good value. We have a family plan, 4 phones, 3 smart phone and the total monthly cost is ~160. We have 1500 minutes to share, and only use about 500 a month since both mobile to mobile and nights and weekends are free. You also generally get free roaming in the US for phone and data.

Text and data are unlimited. The only diss is there isn't a free navigation app with the iphone like the other sprint smartphones.

I'd go with that. I think the individual plan is $70-80. (Adding your family would help a lot!)
