Much as I hate to say anything good about Apple, I had no problems with the update. When I connected to iTunes, it backed up my iPad, installed the update and then restored all my apps and settings.

Easy, peasey, japanesey.

So I guess it would be a good idea to update our new iPhones (4S & 4 arriving today) to iOS 5 immediately before we do anything else, right?

The 4S ships with 5.
I wouldn't say you MUST DO IT RIGHT AWAY.
It takes HOURS.
Very few people are having problems if they follow the directions.

No problems whatsoever here but it took so long to do it that I thought it was 'stuck.'

I have installed iOS5 on an iPod Touch, an iPad 2, and two iPhone 4 units.
No problems other than taking some time.

I agree with the back-up. You also could read about the upgrade. Internet is full of articles about that:

I am going to wait till issues get resolved.

I had problems too. I am an idiot the last backup was from August and I trusted iTunes to do a backup before the upgrade. Did not and came up with errors. So I had a factory reset phone and had to do an August backup......

Where is the restore backup in what folder at win xp?
