Samsung Galaxy S3 | Reviews | CNET UK

It's going to be released in a couple weeks and will be the best Android phone on the market. I've personally never had a use for Apple products.
It seems like it's a toss up between the S3 and One X for most people.

I'm with Verizon and it appears that the One X is AT&T...at least according to Verizon's website.

Rumor has it that the S3 will be coming to Verizon... if not that will be another reason for me to switch (along with losing my "grandfathered" unlimited data at my next upgrade as well as a new $30 charge for upgrading)... I may switch carriers anyway depending on what happens with Verizon's new pricing that supposedly is happening this summer.

With 9 million preorders you would think that Verizon would be getting the S3 though...

Do you know when this will go into effect. I'm in the same situation by my upgrade is June 1st. So I will probably be able to squeak in and get an upgrade before the new rules, but I won't be able to get the S3 like I want.

All that is known thus far is that the data caps for grandfathered folks will come into play when they sign a new contract after the shared plans launch. And that is expected to be sometime this summer. Knowing Verizon, we should know the date prior to it happening.

The One X is coming to Sprint too (as the EVO 4G LTE). So if you switch, there's at least two carriers with it.

Good for Samsung though.

Here's something I just found...

First, Verizon will not automatically move anyone off their existing data plans over to the data share plans. For one thing, if you are still under a contract, Verizon has to honor that contract until its completion. But once that contract expires, the company is free to change the terms of the agreement if you choose to sign another contract.

In this case, Verizon says that it will allow customers to keep their existing unlimited data plans if they either continue to keep their existing device or they buy a new device at the full retail cost of the smartphone.

In other words, if you renew your contract and purchase a subsidized phone when your contract expires, you will not have the option to keep your unlimited plan.

Kinda interesting... I'm not keeping my two year old Droid 2 so if paying full price for the S3 would save me money in the long run, I may do that and keep my unlimited plan. Everything still depends on their new pricing plans.

Yeah I read that Verizon didn't get the S2 because they wanted to be the only U.S. carrier with the Nexus at launch... With Samsung being at the top in smartphone sales (even more than the iPhone) and wanting to sell more phones it only makes sense for Verizon to get the S3... we'll see I guess.

I have a droid 2, as well. I wanted the S3 but I was considering getting a different phone before this change(so I'll aviod this change for 2 years). Are you going to upgrade before the S3 if they haven't made this change by July(and the S3 isn't out yet)

Well it's my understanding that the S3 will be out at the end of this month in the UK and in June in the US. My discounted upgrade date is July 5th.

I want the S3... but would also consider the Nexus. Every cell phone I've gotten since my first one in 1998 has been Motorola. I'm wanting to try something different. I like Android and have no problems with my Droid 2, but it's showing its age on some apps... been a great phone though. I hear great things about Samsung so I'm gonna give them a try...

I expect the full price of the S3 to be around $800... and if it means keeping my unlimited data for another 2 years I may just pay it... all depends on what the new pricing is. I've looked over my data usage and I normally use around 1GB per month, unless it's a Netflix heavy month where I've used close to 10GB.

No idea what cell carriers charge per GB because I've always been unlimited...

I bought my first Android around Thanksgiving last year.....I love it! My daughter was a long term I phone....apple fanatic who has gone over to the ANDROID side after checking out my phone. I have bought an Android tablet to go with the phone.....once you go Android....one tends to not go back. The apps are great....large variety for pretty much everything. If an app one wants has just come out for IPhone....one for Android is just around the corner...Not to mention the learning curve is very short lived when utilizing an android application. Good luck with your choice. (oh...i too have dropped my android on many occasions and circumstances....not a scrat h is on it...and i never had any trouble with its operational abilities).
