Yesterday after work I called a friend to make sure our plans were still on for later that night. I called on the house phone because it was the closest to me. When I called I got their generic voice mail that most people seem to have on their cellphones. I didn't leave my friend a message, but called them back fifteen minutes later and they answered this time.
About a half hour later I get a call on the house phone from some guy. I decided to answer because it was an actual name on the caller idea. The conversation started out strange. I said hello as did the caller and then there was a long pause. He then asked if I needed anything. I told him you tell me, you're the one that called. He then said that there was a number on his phone and he wanted to call back to make sure no one at the number needed him. I thought back and realized that I must have dialed the wrong number the first time I tried to call my friend. I explained this to him that it looked like I dialed the wrong number without realizing it and I was sorry for the confusion. He then said no problem and goodbye. I assumed this was the end of things and then left the house.
I live with my parents and they were out at this time. After they came home this guy called again. My dad answered and it was the same guy wondering where I was. My dad asked if he was a friend of mine and he said no, that I had tried to call him and I had said it was an accident. My dad then said it must have been a wrong number because I don't have any friends by his name and he didn't know anyone by his name. The guy then said okay just making sure and hung up. He then called a third time, the second time to my dad's knowledge, trying to reach me again. My dad said pretty firmly that if he tried calling here again that the next phone call he would be getting would be from the police and that wouldn't be a mistake.
My dad asked me about this guy when I got home and I said I thought this was cleared up. So far he hasn't called back. What I find funny is that I just check his number on our caller id and it isn't even close to my friend's number, so I'm thinking that he had a wrong number call him (not me) and called the wrong number back when trying to reach the actual wrong number.
I don't understand why an apology and an explanation isn't enough for some people when I wrong number is dialed. They have to keep calling and harping on the situation even further and don't let it go. I can see calling once which is fine, but three times? Was I in any wrong here? Have you ever had this happen to you when you dialed a wrong number?
Do you have a nice voice? Maybe he has developed a crush on you?
Years ago when I was in college, I subleted an apartment from a friend of a friend but never met the person I subleted from. We only spoke on the phone a few times and only about business. But she kept calling me after any need to speak had passed. Apparently, she liked me based on my voice (according to my friend). This was before things like facebook so she had no way of knowing what I looked like.

That did cross my mind. I thought maybe the guy was lonely and since I was nice to him on the phone he called back. Even so, I just found the whole thing strange.
Weird... It could be random accidental dialing, a that, a person of normal mind wouldn't continue to call even if he liked the sound of your voice.
Don't lose his name and number from the caller ID. Its very easy for weirdos to do some investigating to find out where you live. BTW, PA has good stalking laws.

I definitely have his info. My dad has actually been in law enforcement for over 30 years, so he'll know exactly who to contact if anything else comes up. I'm college age, but my dad is better at dealing with these types of people/ scaring them off than I am.
