I just upgraded to Android 2.3.5 and the unlock screen is now a ring near the bottom and you have to drag the ring upwards to unlock. I found some threads saying you have to download an app to change or remove it, and even then it's iffy.
Does every phone with the same Android version have the same unlock screen?
Do Androids after 2.3.5 have the pull the ring thing?

I think the lockscreen rings you describe are only on HTC phones. If you want a different design, check out go locker or widget locker. Go Locker is more simple so all you can change is the wallpaper. Widget Locker is more customizable and you can put almost any widget on the lockscreen.

Android phones are customized by each MFG and have different user interfaces, yours sounds like an HTC as Hemi said, which uses the Sense interface, which is actually my favorite. What is it that bugs you so much?

It's slightly awkward to unlock it. You have to move a rather small right upwards and then there's a silly animated whirling of the desktop (Some people have tried to stop the animation in the setup options but one guy said it doesn't stop the whirling.) I preferred the arch thing in 2.3.3.
I actually wish there was no unlock screen at all since you have to press the power button to unsleep it and I'm not going to accidentally press that thing.

I actually love the lockscreen you are talking about. I got Widget Locker just so I could get that.
I like how you can have up to 4 shortcuts right on your lockscreen. But hey.... different strokes, right?
