Eh. Apple also launched the iPhone 5 in September.

Not really surprising though. Android is on a huge variety of devices, from bottom rung cheap devices to the very high end. Apple doesn't really make much effort to compete anywhere except the high end (maybe mid range with their previous generation phones).
