I just got an android, and have friends who have sent me texts with emoticons from their iPhones. We all have the emoji app for this. I can send them fine, but when they send them to me, they just show up as Japanese characters! (Or Chinese, or Korean, forgive me, i don't know the difference and haven't looked it up...doesn't matter, I can't read any of them and they should just be smileys!). Anyone know why this is happening and of it can be fixed?

Was the phone purchased from your cellular carrier or from a 3rd party/online reseller ?? If the phone was manufactured for use in Asia, it might explain the issue.

Ok, so do you know exactly which emoji app you did download? There are TONS of them.

For example this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....emojikeyboard

Clearly states that IT WILL NOT DISPLAY EMOJI
