Me too! Second hand iphones on a prepaid plan for a couple years now. I don't need the latest/greatest, my 4 works just fine! I bought the 3gs used on ebay and two people have given me their 4's when they upgraded. Until they stop supporting it I'll stay put.

Maybe you are doing something wrong?

I've got a 64gb 5s. I will list it on EBay when the 6 goes on sale and am pretty sure I'll at least get the $399 to allow me to upgrade to the 64gb 6 for free. (Assuming we still have the same $199 $299 $399 pricing)

HTC Shadow
Pharos 137
Touch HD2
Galaxy Nexus 3
LG Nexus 4

As long as I can get $100-150 towards a new phone im fine, gone are the days of a used smartphone going for $2-300 on ebay
I sold my 32gb S3 with a 32gb SD for $325 on EBay in September when I got my 5s and will sell it this fall for at least $399.

iPhones have resale value and my phones are in Ballistic cases with Ghost Armor. I buy them mint and resell them mint.

I buy a new phone every 4-6 months because I'm a geek and like to have the latest technology. I lose maybe 200$ per year by doing this. I buy a new, sell the old and usually end up getting near what I paid or slightly less. It's a great model if you keep your phones in decent shape and don't mind selling on Craigslist since most places where you send in your phone give you way less cash.

I agree they push them out too fast but that said it's because there's people who have to have every new phone and will run out and drop $600 on every new phone that comes out every few months and are constantly swapping out. To me I'll keep my phone the full two years sometimes even longer.

Phones don't get obsolete, you can normally do updates to new versions of android for at least a year probably more like 2 until your device can't take any more updates because of the hardware and even at that point its not like your phone wont work.

I had an origional HTC Evo up until about 3 months ago and though a few things maybe I couldn't have the most updated version of an app my phone still worked fine. 99% of people who have to get every new phone don't even use a fraction of the functionality and stuff that new phone provides so they really dont have any use for it aside from keeping up with the jones and maybe some small new feature they like like facial recognition or something like that.
