My daughter received some name calling, harassing iMessages from a classmate, which she deleted. The classmate is accusing my daughter of doing it.

In order to get to the bottom of this, I was wondering if anyone knows of any programs to restore deleted iMessages? I Googled and came up with Dr. Fone, but have no idea if that works.

Has anyone every tried to restore deleted message items on an iPhone 4S, and if so, what did you do or use?

In case anyone is ever in this position, the trial version of Dr. Fone was able to find everything which was deleted in the last 8 months (there could be more, but I didn't need to go back further.)

If she has backed up her phone on iTunes they should all be there.

She didn't back it onto iTunes because we share the iTunes account. As it was, she never wrote anything negative or anything she shouldn't have, but her accuser did.

If they are "marked for deletion" are they actually deleted later on, or they never get deleted, not till the owner delete it on the iTunes?

This is from iPhone support group:

Yes, it is possible to recover deleted text messages from iPhone.

This is how:
- Firstly buy the MyContactBackupPro app for you iPhone. Other apps are available and some are free. It doesn't matter which you use but make sure that the app is capable of sending your contacts list by e-mail.
- Then backup your contact as per instructions in MCBUPro app.
e-mail the backup file to yourself as per instructions.
- Now connect your phone to a PC/Mac and backup your iPhone using iTunes.
- Now re-set you iPhone (settings/general/reset/erase all contents and settings) following on-screen instructions.
- Your iPhone will now reboot itself as though it was a new phone. Follow on-screen instructions.
- When phone has finished re-setting, re-enter your e-mail details.
- Your emails will now download. This will include the e-mail that you sent to yourself with the contact backup app. Note:- if you use POP mail then it is likely that your server will download all the mails it is holding. This can be quite a lot. In my case 2500! These have to be deleted by hand .......

Now copy your apps across from iTunes. DO NOT USE BACKUP OR RESTORE AS THIS WILL RE-INTRODUCE THE PROBLEM YOU ARE TRYING TO ELIMINATE.
Restore your contacts from the e-mail you sent your self and which is now again on your phone.
Copy across your ring tones, music, apps, photos, TV programs, films etc. Do this by drag n drop NOT Restore!!!

Your iPhone will now be back to normal without the old numbers in the Message autofill. All that remains for you to do is to redo the app layout and all is OK.

You can check whether your iPhone automatically to iCloud by going to Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Manage (on Mac computer) or opening iCloud for Windows > Manage (on PC).

If yes, congratulations! You can restore your another iPhone from iCloud backup to get back the data on this iPhone.

Or you can also directly extract your data on the phone with the help of this article on FORecovery: How to recover deleted messages on iPhone.
Hope this helps!
