I don't like to text, so turned off this feature on my iPhone (I hope I've done it correctly)... Settings > Messages, then deselect everything.
It appears to work properly... I texted myself from another phone & although it shows 'message sent', is stored in the Sent file & isn't received on the iPhone... there's no bounced text msg to indicated that phone/person/account wishes not to receive texts or that the texting feature is deactivated. It looks to the sender as if everything is AOK & their message was sent & received.
With telemarketers, I don't care, but it would be nice to notify once & for all, the couple of hardheaded folks I keep telling to stop texting, who just continue to do so, regularly. Any way for me to set up a vacation message 'Stop texting w**kers!'
Thank you, kind C-Ders... please don't text the answer to me. Cheers...

Unfortunately, I'm still receiving texts, so obviously what I did above was a fluke & only blocked my 1 text. I cannot find a way to turn off texting and/or simultaneously send a message when one is received, even by looking at the owner's manual & googling.
Anyone helpful have a solution or guidance on where to find the info? Perhaps it cannot be done? I appreciate it.
Thank you, Dave. Found multiple answers on the forum... some said it can't be done on the phone, but texting can be disabled for the account through the carrier. That won't work as I'm only a user on the account, not the owner & the other 3 use texting regularly.
Still, others said, 'You can ask your cellular carrier to disable SMS (cellular) text messages for that particular cell phone number, however, you cannot disable iMessages (to/from other Apple devices)' which doesn't solve my problem as I'm being texted from iPhones.
Re: TheLopez2: 'Did you try calling your phone company and asking them to disable texting?'
It's not my account, so I don't have access. When the owner called Verizon, he got contradictory info, as usual & as above, then, they did something silly & accidentally disabled his phone, which wasn't pleasant as he uses it for business. Took him an entire day & 3-4 phone calls to straighten it out... understandably, he told me to figure it out.
Looks like I'll just have to learn to ignore the plethora of msgs I get everyday.
