I am considering between 2 data plan options to be able to work on my laptop (to connect remotely to office desktop) during my rather long (55 mins each way) morning train commute. I am considering between these 2 options

1/ to get a > 10GB data plan as part of our 2 line iPhone ATT plan, and use it as hotspot / tethering. We currently have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, so will have to give that up to get a metered plan to be able to tether; or

2/ get a dedicated device like MyFi or similar and use either an ATT or another available data plan.

Anybody with similar needs/ usage has suggestions on which option would be better for such regular and consistent usage? Is there an advantage to using a MyFi like device over iPhone 6? We live in the Dallas area.

Thanks for reading and your time!

Either option will work.
I think the deciding factor is price and if you are willing to give up your Unlimited Data.

Thanks.

Are there any potential issues with using an iPhone as Hotspot for ~ 2 hours a day, instead of a dedicated device? Occasional use I guess would be ok, but worried if consistent daily use can affect the phone itself.

Cannot just test the option as I have to give up the unlimited plan to try that out.

No. It will drain your battery faster, that's about it.
Hopefully, you can charge up at the office.
