Hi,
I just bought a new smartphone which is Windows 8 based (I think?) and I am wondering if I can free up space by removing any of the out-of-the-box stuff that I just might never use?
I bought the phone with it having 8 GB of internal memory and I've only put about a couple dozen albums on it and it's already filled.
Is there software I can dump which I will never use?
2 Things and I hate to be a jerk about this but...
1) If you have purchased a phone that has an available SD slot, then go get an SD card
2) If the above is false, then you should have purchased a phone with more internal storage
8GB is enough for a few apps, the operating system, some carrier junk and maybe a handful of songs.
Pretty sure all Windows phones have SD card slots. Get one.
8GB is enough for quite a few songs, not just a handful. You probably have 5GB free. Apps, other then games, take up VERY little space. Photos and songs take up most of the space.

I bought a 16GB micro card but I want to know how much I can load onto the internal 8GB.

The above-highlighted. That's what I'm wondering about. How much of it is in the phone of the 8GB given?
Of that internal 8GB how much of it is junk in the phone at the time of purchase that I should probably dump?

I have a 2GB MP3 player that I have a couple dozen albums on, so was it an eroneous assumption on my behalf to assume I could get that and then some on my phone, or does the phone have different functions for the 8GB opposed to the 2GB the mp3 player has?

Load everything you can to the SD card. Apps, photos, videos, music. If your phone craps out, you have that stuff on the card for your new phone.
I have a Windows Phone, and have a 32GB card.
You can delete SOME of the bloat software. Depends on the carrier, and if it is a core function. Sweep the screen from the right, and you will see your list of applications.
Touch and hold the application. You should get a drop down box. If the app can be deleted, there should be a choice to "Uninstall." Touch it. It works.
Most of that bloatware sponsored crap on phones you can't remove just by going into settings you have to jailbreak phone or root it or whatever tehy call it. ALso just curious how you don't know if you bought a windows or android phone?

I'm totally in the dark about smart phones. When you say "android" I honestly don't know what you're talking about. I believe it's Windows since it's functioning a lot like the Windows 8 based system I had on my previous laptop?

On Windows Phone, the bloatware generally can be removed.
