I've heard that's also true in France, but I've never been so I can't be sure.

I almost got a new phone until one day I thought, maybe it's the launcher & sure enough it was.

This may have to do with my ancient phone running Ice Cream Sandwich & the launcher not supporting this.

I've also found other apps I've downloaded are bad at times & cause freezes or lags & as soon as I stop using them or uninstall them, the phone works fine.
Holo launcher gave me also a headache now I use BUzz launcher we can create our own launchers as we like it that is an advantage in there.

you customize your phone internet data through settings. you can set syncing only on wifi that is what I have done to save my data.

Funny thing is, it has always been there when you do start typing a number, any number ...
If there is a name which starts with the corresponding character, a name WILL come up ...

We just do not notice things like that ...

Shows you that average people have a very limited field of view ...
*I* did not notice until I had my phone for a couple of months !

I don't think people don't notice it when they use the dialer, I think people are used to going into CONTACTS to initiate a call, not starting from the dialer. So they just don't see it.
I mean come on....how many numbers can we even remember anymore?? I have like 5 memorized... lol

Maybe that is why *I* noticed after a while ...

I have an APP, that comes with pics of *often dialed* numbers (mostly immediate Family)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...dial.apk&hl=en
So I do not even know the phone numbers of any of them on that APP.
Sadly, often, at some place, when you buy stuff, for instance,
I am asked what my phone number is,
and I have to *think* what it is !

Once and a while, I have to type in a number, and one day I noticed a name come up below the number.
My reaction... , where did this come from ??

LOL... well you WERE speaking generally, as well.

I think most of the newer phones come with the stock Android dialer so they should already get a list of "Speed Dials". I think Samsung might be the only exception.

Just an FYI, airplane mode turns off ALL connectivity, including calls and text. It's specifically for use in airplanes (and hospitals and other areas) where you're advised to turn your phone off. It's effectively radio silence, but you're still able to play music or videos or access other data stored on your device.

Airplane mode might help it charge slightly faster, but that's really not what it's for, and it takes you off the air.

Right. Might as well turn your phone off. It charges quicker that way, too.

Anyone here have an app that shows battery drainage?
I really suspect that the standby consumption, is pretty insignificant, with or without cell and WiFi functions enabled.
And a powered down phone, or one turned to Airplane Mode, can't receive emergency phone calls or Weather Alerts.

You don't need an app, the OS tracks this. It can be viewed under settings > battery.

It's the data connections that use battery in standby. Back when I got my nexus 4 I removed the sim from my old phone and stuck it in a box for use if the Nexus died. This old phone lasted maybe a day with normal usage. over a week later I was hearing gmail notifications, I had forgot to turn the old phone off. It was still going and had more than half it's battery left with the wifi on, just no sim.
