We've been w/Verizon for several years and currently pay about $150 per mo. Our Service & Phone (I4 & I5) are paid-up so we could switch with no 'termination fees.'

I've been looking at Consumer Cellular (AT&T/Sprint service - GSM) which provides the same voice/data plans for about $40-$50 with no contract. (Why 'throw-away' $100 per month?)

My wife is interested in a new Iphone 6 -- I barely use my Ip4 for even phone calls (no texting, etc).

Any experience or advice??

We have been happy Consumer Cellular customers for a few years now. The only caveat is you must have good AT&T reception. We do not use our phone very much, so we send about $34. a month for 2 phones. They make it effortless to adjust the data from month to month, so you never go over. If you are running close to using your data for the month they send you a warning, so you can bump up if you want.
Our only snafu, was when we first got it and were using our existing Blackberries, for some reason we could never get data on it, so we bought their phones, preloaded.

Sprint is not GSM.

Your iPhone 4 won't work on the AT&T network.

If you are spending $150 a month at Verizon, you must have a huge data plan (or you failed to request a reduction in your monthly bill when you went off contract). Consumer cellular only gives you 2.5-3gigs of 4g then you are throttled down to 2g speeds if you go over the limit.

I ported my Verizon HTC Android to PagePlus Cellular 3 or 4 years ago and now I pay $12 a month pre-paid for 250/250. Other rates are available.

I've been very happy with consumer cellular. Consumer reports had them as the best phone provider at one time. I haven't checked recently to see if they're still at the top.
You can use an iPhone. I used to use one on the plan. You'll have to pay big bucks to get an unlocked iphone 6 though. A quick search shows me $760.

My voice/texting/data needs are very light, Been using Consumer Cellular for about a year and a half with no issues, and the $29 a month bill is nice too. I recently converted my GF to no contract service from Verizon, we bought her a Moto G second gen but went with Straight Talk as she uses about 3GB per month, the unlimited plan on ST is $45 a month, CC doesn't have an unlimited plan.

Page Plus Cellular, TracFone, NET10 Wireless, Total Wireless, Straight Talk, SafeLink Wireless, Telcel América, Simple Mobile are all brand names for América Móvil (which is based in Mexico city). América Móvil has more wireless customers than anyone other company (more than AT&T and Verizon combined) and the owner of the company is Carlos Slim, the world's richest man.

They have 71K customers in Mexico, 71K in Brazil, and about 25K in USA and in Colombia. The rest of the customers are spread around Latin America and they are expanding into Europe.

167K is not a whole lot. My guess is that Verizon and ATT have at least 200,000,000 customers.

Are you sure about the iPhone 4? - CC says 'no problem' -- although my wife now wants an iPhone 6, which I suppose will upgrade me to the IP5 (I'm not really a big cellular fan).

I'll check with Verizon, but, don't think we've got a 'huge' data plan. I barely use it and my wife does much of her activity on WIFI.

I've run into some reviews of Consumer Cellular that are not too favorable when it comes to Customer support.
