How do I figure out what AMP 12v DC adapter I need? I bought a cell phone amplifier that didn't come with a 120V AC adapter and I need to use it in my home. The manufacturer says that for car use it would require a 3 amp Fuse so I am guessing that 3 amps is the maximum. I went to radio shack and they sell anything from a 1 amp to a 2.5 amp 120v AC to 12V DC adapter.

Any idea what adapter I need to buy?

From what I can tell online is that you don't purchase a different adapter for it. You purchase a standard adapter for converting a DC light plug end into a AC plug. Sorry can't help. You'll probably need to go to the ham radio sites as a standard off the shelf adapter will not work. Sounds like it needs the converter RS sold 30+ years ago for ham users.

Radio Shack adapters are pretty light duty. Looks like at a nominal 12 volts, draw would be just under 3 amps. An old computer power supply would have 12 volts with ample amperage, although you might have to jumper a couple connections. Another solid possibility is a UPS that takes a sealed 12 volt battery. Tap off the leads to the battery and add a fuse and the amp will even work when the power fails. Just for playing around, an old model train power pack would give the proper voltage, but those transformers and circuits are not really continuous duty.
