Most people assume that text messages are transmitted instantaneously, (a few seconds at most), but this isn't always the case.
I once timed several text messages I sent to a person standing next to me, and they took 20 minutes to show up.
If you are doing a back-and-forth, it should be a minute or two, or you should note it via text that your next reply will be delayed.
But responding the first time to an incoming text? Whenever it's convenient.
As long as you don't send a sitting on the toilet "selfie" by accident?
If it's of me from the neck up, no problem!!
Actually, I've taken 2 "selfies" in my whole life. Neither were in the bathroom. I do, however, like to read my email, catch the latest news headlines, and check the weather radar while in the bathroom.
I dissuade anyone from texting me. I've received so few (they're usually from people I really don't know), I'm not even sure how to send them properly. If in fact I do receive one, I usually phone them back, it's much quicker.
I barely know where the letters and symbols are on my laptop's keyboard, let alone trying to find and then press the right symbols on my iPhone.
As to how fast I'd reply, I'd use the same pecking order as I do with voicemails.
Now you can, thanks to the new Potty Spotty® app.
It scans all the participating restrooms in your area (make sure you have the share location feature enabled on your phone first, though) and then shows all the addresses of unoccupied stalls closest to you.
I hear the update is even going to allow one to place a stall reservation good for an hour after payment is received, and also include those establishments that offer high speed WiFi, if necessary...
