Who would it only cost $20 to get a new phone? Does it usually cost that much if you keep the same plan?
I know you laughed because my phone is so old but it works okay so I don't want to bother with getting a new one.
I was out of upgrade for anther half of a year, unless I went to Swapa, there was no way even getting one through Verizon's customer service line and not just the retail stores.
Its different on post paid plans. But even then, they will eventually offer an upgrade. My wife's LG Vigor was KitKat and just got upgraded to Lollipop. Post paid gets upgrades before prepaid. Sometimes prepaid does not get upgraded at all.
I'm not saying to break your contract and pay the ETF. I'm suggesting, to get a free phone or a penny phone when it is time to renew. If you've been grandfathered, you're probably stuck, and screwed; rooting violates the terms of agreement. But if you are in the free and clear, and the timing is right for you, it would be wise to upgrade and take advantage of everything Android has to offer.
