Given all the howling on this thread and elsewhere for the S5 as well as the IPhone, what would you buy as an alternative in the 350-$500 neighborhood?

Whatever smartphone one buys, one needs to make sure to purchase the American version rather than the Chinese version (which can happen if one visits China and occasionally happens with online purchases). The Chinese version will not allow one to use Google Play or any Google apps on it.

As I understand, the majority off assets are overseas. Not truly "American" in my opinion. Steve Jobs may have co-founded the company here in the US, not as much today. Just my $.02 worth, take it or leave it.

If they can't setup their own phone I'm guessing they bought way too much phone. It literally walks you through everything step by step. Are they 90 years old by chance?

Might be, setting up work email?

Or maybe Peregrine, just wanted to help "set-up" the phone.

I like the S7 and almost bought an S6, but went with the Nexus 6P instead. (which is a beautiful phone in it's own right).

The S7 is just better in every way than the S6 so it should do well.
