That worked great until this week. The e-mail to their text cell phone does arrive but they are not getting the text of the message they get some other text.
Maybe Verizon changed things to prevent text by e-mail for their financial benefit.

What low cost alternatives are out there for a very easy to text (keyboard style) that would only be used for texting and nothing else. Text only, no need to pay for ability to make phone calls.

Maybe a TracFone?

We stopped texting on the other phone due to numerous texts from telemarketers and we got tired of getting, reading, deleting, and paying for them.
They're getting harder to find. One advantage of smartphones, if you end up being forced to go that route, is that you can use the microphone and just speak what you want to text. Tedious, but it is an option.

Another advantage is that you can block calls, and texts, and you can even get caller ID.

Something to think about. I'd get a "dumb" smartphone, like an old Android Jellybean or Windows Phone 8.1, for like $30. It is not as though you're going to use any apps as it is.

If you search on Best Buy and choose the "Not Applicable" option for the operating system it filters out all touchscreen phones. For example

Not Applicable All Prepaid Phones - Best Buy

The recipients are getting this instead of our text message:

Unsupported multiparty/ alternative content has been removed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They can send us a text message and we can see the body of the message but they can not initiate one just reply to an old saved message.

The only way we can now communicate with them is we use the "subject" line for our message to them and they can reply back normally.

Verizon filled some of the crack we guess.
