Ok, so my sons iphone 5 is doing something unusual. Phone completely dead. Plug it up and the battery indicator comes up with a short red bar. Within a coupleof seconds, it goes to the white screen with the Apple logo. It may do this twice, then nothing happens. You can unplug it and still nothing, BUT if you use a different cord or charger, it starts all over again. He had his service switch over to another iphone he had, but he wants this 5 working again, since he cant afford an upgrade just yet. Anybody have an idea, and yes Ive searched the Apple site, but nothing with this specifc problem. He does have an appointment this afternoon at the Apple store. Just trying to get ahead of the game.

You can try to restore it to see if that will work. Hook up to iTunes and try restoring to factory settings.

Tried it. Itunes wont recognize the phone.I thought maybe the cord was bad or something, but we tried my cord and charger, and nothing.

Something about the part where the cord goes in is bad. He did get it to power up just long enough to get some of his files and such off of it. Took them both holding the phone and cord at the right angle to get it to take a charge.

i have a nexus that fell down the stairs and doesnt charge via usb.

now i have to use a usb cable that i cut to expose the red and black wires.
every time it needs a charge i need to open the back cover, disconnect the battery and stick the wires into the connector (its like jump-starting a car: black-to-black; red-to-red). very tedious.
