Yesterday I dropped my Iphone 5 (only a plastic case, not water resistant or anything) in a pot of boiling water at work (a restaurant) and I had to fish it out with a ladle, it was completely submerged for at least 30 seconds, and it never stopped working. The mic and speakers acted funky for about 24 hours, but the next day everything was working perfect. Pretty cool. . Hope I don't test it's abilities again!

Give it time, corrosion can take a while to form and start eating away at components.

lol, probably. I say all that and it will die shortly. I cleaned it out pretty good and put a fan on it for a few hours.

Stick it in a ziplock bag with some uncooked rice, it's a great de-moisturizer.

I can understand dropping one's phone in the toilet, but a pot of boiling water?

why do people recommend this when silica gel is almost as attainable (pretty much all clothing/shoes that ship from asia have packets since the ocean is all water/moisture).

Many people have rice immediately available, I personally don't keep a supply of silica gel at home

i get your point. check your drawers, shoe boxes, ... if you bought anything from overseas in the past few months you probably have a few packs lying around.

I would bet most people actually don't have any of those lying around. I throw them out right away.
