Ok, don't laugh, I'm still using an iPhone5. It's actually the THIRD iPhone5 I've bought, because it is small enough to fit in the tiny pockets manufacturers annoyingly put in most women's pants.

I've kinda been wanting to get away from Apple, though I'm not entirely sure why I feel that way (I guess because my tablet is Samsung, and unless Apple has changed, additional storage can't be added to their tablets and phones). I've had Apple phones for so long I don't know where to begin in choosing a new one.

I use my phone for calling, texting, email, Facebook, and as a camera. I don't watch movies, play games, or use many apps.

If I switch from iPhone to Android, will it be a nightmare to switch over things like photos and contacts? I just want something small-ish, and easy to figure out for someone who is not a pro at technology.

First, determine if you NEED extra storage. Each new generation of iPhone typically adds more base storage, or the cost for the next upgrade tier isn’t too much. The iPhone 5 came with 16 GB base storage while the iPhone 11 base is 64GB.

Also, iCloud takes care of offloading pictures, etc. if your phone gets close to full. Not perfect but also backs up precious memories in case the phone is stolen.

There are rumors that an iPhone SE 2 is going to come out early next year, which you may want to wait for. That would have the form factor you like.

Or get an iPhone SE while you wait - internals equivalent to the iPhone 6S which is 2 years newer than your 5. Here’s someone selling a new/unused 64 GB model for $190 on Swappa.

I like the "new" Pixel 2 I just bought. Great camera, lots of storage, fast processor, and reasonably small. It's a couple of generations old, but gets all the android software updates. Call screening is fun!

You can get them "open box" from Ebay for around $130, and mine was in pristine condition.

I was recently looking for a small phone.... and could not find any new androids that are actually very small (or lightweight). I ended up getting an iPhone SE ... it was the lightest weight phone I could find. Other than the Palm, I think its currently the smallest smart phone available.

You can use this site to compare phone sizes- side by side- https://www.phonearena.com/phones/size - just enter the model names below.

I will follow this thread to see what small androids are suggested.

I only do Android. My wife and every ogher person I know always has the latest iphone. I'm not impressed.

The two worst phones I've owned have been the Sonys. And I love Sony products in general - every Sony tv, blu-ray, music player, etc, I've ever owned still works, including the Walkman I got in the early 80s. The phones...buggy so fast it makes your head spin.

Best phones I've owned are the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active and S8 Active.

Get the S8 Active...then you don't have to add a protective case, keeping the size/bulk down.
