Our phones (my wife and I) are uninsured and usually last us for many years, we do keep the last old phones for backups and often use them while in the Philippines as second phones, the money we have saved by buying our own unlocked phones and not insuring them has been a substantial amount. We do put gel cases on our phones when we get them to protect them.

Plus $300 for a deductible and then subtract your depreciation.

I used to get insurance for the first year and then drop it. It depends on what kind of phone you have.

Phones have gotten much better and cheaper if you don't need the newest model. The old 'newest model' was way worse then the new cheaper option and those do everything I need.

Yes I would like a brand new I-Phone but I don't need it.

And Yes, Dude111 we know you don't have a smartphone and never will.

Work pays for my insurance, otherwise I would not have it.

Really?? I can't fix my typo, and I can't delete my thread and redo?
Who thinks this is how a forum should be run??? #annoying
Can I have a mod fix the typo???
I buy the phone upright (upfront, cash), and don't waste money on insurance. But I do extend the Apple warranty past one year, just in case. I use the money that I would pay for insurance on a LifeProof case.

My wife and I use our cellphones for many years, and by buying the phones upfront we aren't tied-up to service contracts.

Which insurance has a $300 deductible. I have had 3 claims over the years and never paid close to that much.

I guess it's $200. As to who has a deductible that high, Assurion, the only company offering carrier insurance. Obviously, Samsung Protection+, AppleCare+, and SquareTrade have lower deductibles, but they won't cover lost or stolen devices.

I have T-Mobile, and pay $10 per month for insurance. I had to use it for the first time, when my Galaxy S-5 starting having battery problems. The deductible of $175 was a lot less than getting a new phone, and my new phone was overnighted to me. It hasn't given me any problems yet.

most people hold onto a fone for 2 years ($264 in insurance premiums) then $200 in deductable. there is less than a 10% chance you would ever use it.

in an emergency the difference of buying a new fone would be: $600 - $464 = $136 .

it would make better sense to deposit 11 bucks in an interest accruing money-market every month for a rainy day fund. then after 2 years subsidize your own fone.

After I put my phone through the washing machine for the second or third time, we got insured. That was about 7 years ago. I think we've still got the insurance, though we might want to cancel it.
