Another benefit of MagicJack landline is that if you are on the phone, and another call comes in and you choose to ignore the call-waiting notification, MagicJack will play them your previously recorded message, record their message, and e-mail a .WAV file to you with the message of your caller.

AND! if you are sending a fax with MagicJack and someone calls you, you'll get that e-mail with their recorded message. This happened to me today - in the 30 seconds I was sending a fax, my wife called and left a message. Went to my computer and saw the MJ message - played it on the spot.
My parents have to still keep their landline.
-- My dad does not use it because he uses his cell phone. My mom would rather talk on house phone than cell phone, so as long as she home she uses house phone. Only uses cell phone while she is out or she has to text my dad, me, or brother something.
-- Halfly because of my mom, and other half because of the alarm and parents said that alarm company says that they still need to be hooked up to house phone and not cell phone or they cant get through to them.
For me at least, I do not use house phone. Everyone who needs to reach me calls or texts me on my cell phone. Its better for cell phone because its with me all day long, while house phone is out of the way. I know I can say the opposite where I like using house phone better, but for my usage and lifestyle, cell phone is better.
I want one, but can not afford. I am stuck with MagicJack and its terrible service, but for under $40 a year. One day I pray to afford a solid landline again.

If you have a decent internet connection speed, then the MJ should work excellent, so since you say yours is terrible, I suggest you increase your speed, as long as you are using the newer models, and if you are, and you still feel it is terrible, then I suggest you figure out why because I use two of them, I even use one while we are living in the Philippines and also use the MJ app like now I am in Cebu and both of mine work excellent about 95% of the time, the other 5% they do not work well is due to my slower connection while here in Cebu, in Florida I have Comcast fast connect, where my MJ works about 99.9% of the time perfect.
BTW a few years back I had AT&T slow speed and if I tried to use my computer while on the phone, then my MJ broke up, it is all about having a fast connection.
Mr. Lee, one needs money to increase speeds. I pay $26 a month for 2M download with TimeWarner. Another $10 will get me 3M. Not worth it. Plus, MJ does not allow faxes nor corrects DST. I would love to go back to Vonage, but too pricey, and a true landline (great since you do not need the Internet) is even more.
One day...
I am ditching my vonage service and going to try using my tracfone cell service full time. I am upgrading from a "dumb phone" to a "smart phone" on the tracfone network. I will likely not use the internet on the phone much.
