Yes, slim pickings. Tried Android Auto and Car Home Ultra - both kind of busy and small icons. Drivemode doesn't change your interface nor take over your phone, at least I didn't notice it yet. Not sure if it connects with Bluetooth. Yesterday I activated it through the start icon, today I will do nothing just switch on the Bluetooth and see what happens.
Got two txt messages on my way home yesterday, and it did good job....
Hijacking this with my own question since my wife had a Windows Phone & now I bought her a Google Pixel that she loves.
Question is - how do you get badge icons on Android like Windows or iPhone has? I didn't see anything in settings to turn badge icons on. With her Windows Phone she'd get a notification on the app or a # on her mail app.
I had her download the app 'Notifyer Unread Count' which mostly does the job (showing badge count) but it won't allow her to move her gmail & text messages apps in the bar at the bottom. Any other apps or settings to look at?
The stock Pixel launcher does not have badge notifications but other launchers (eg the Nova launcher available in the Play Store) are more customizable.
Android uses the notification shade instead. If you'd like to have icon badges, there are third-party launchers on the Play Store that provide this feature.
You should experiment with them until you find one that meets your needs.
Yea, agree. This is one area where Apple trounces Android. Of course, this is also a cool thing about Android: different companies do different things with Android. LG uses badge counters on just about everything on Android phones.

Eight months later - update:
After testing other apps, I decided to stay with Drivemode. It works with or without Waze just great. Nothing to connect or activate. Start Waze. Start driving. Navigation and Drivemode will start immediately. Shuts automatically after you stop driving.
No change on map or homepage. You can block or receive calls with a wave, swipe blindly to launch music apps and control playback, and create auto-reply messages for anyone who texts you, read messages and understand your voice perfectly; share location, has a clock, speedometer, weather, works with Google Now and Google Assistant, messaging apps, music apps, and navigation apps.
More features are added since I started using it, and the app is frequently updated.
Worked fine during my overseas vacation too.
