I was looking into boost mobile and after 23gb your data speed may be slower. I was wondering if anyone has experienced discomfort after you reach a certain data cap, or is unlimited data plans where you never experience any "slowness", like if it usually takes 2 seconds to open up youtube, does it now take like 10 seconds or something.

Most will really never slow you down on their unlimited. It base on the congestion in your area. If they do throttle you, its 2g network and youtube will laugh at you. I tether my phone (root) from t-mobile and eat up about 100gig monthly and never been throttled. But im in a area that their are more verizon and ATT than their is metro-tmobile. Sprint is useless here, even tho the tell you its covered.

Depends on the carrier, Tmobile once throttled me to 2G Edge speeds for going over 5GB, not sure if they still do it

TMobile throttled me down to about twice the speed of dial up one time. It was brutal.

I guess i been lucky. Now if your on any other plan that is not unlimited data, than yea i can see them throttle after you reach the limit.
Boost is sprint prepaid. Will still suck and will remain sucky untill they can find better spectrum and wall/building penetration, and data that can work.

T-Mobile drops me to 'up to 128kps' speed which is about double dial up speed.

You don't need to root to tether.

If you want data counted for a teather plan, than no. But if you want unlimited data that the "cell towers" thinks its your phone using the data, not your pc then yes on most devices. APN settings will work on some devices, but it will show that your teathering your phone to a pc. Some cell companies charge you for this and some dont. Looking at you verizon and metro. To get around metro 5g teathering, you can use a app to get around that. Not going to promote the software but a simple google search will tell you what to do. I been rooting since the first g1 phone from tmobile and ever since they started the unlimited data plans years ago, i been eating up 20+g monthly till about 2010 when i went on the road and hotel wifi sucked. Hook up my laptop and xbox and easy eat up about 80gig a month. Best i done 100g due to COD i downloaded on the xbox.. Never got throttled. Even now, i dont and i use it when i go out and about and need to remote into a client to fix something i can teather without the need to pay extra for the plan.

At one time we had AT&T unlimited data, but once we reached a certain data usage it felt like it got switched to dial up speed.
