If you don't pay your monthly bill, how long can you keep using your phone? I'm sure there is a grace period, but how long?

They text and email you warnings first, don't they?

Not long. It will depend on your carrier. If you need the phone, pay your bill.

I foolishly paid my bill with paper mail and mailed it Tuesday. The due date is Sunday. (I'm not going to do that any more.) There is no indication they got it which worries me.

If worse comes to worse I can go to their store and pay in person on Monday.

Prepaid cellular plans have no grace period at all. If you stop paying you lose service. Most prepaid plans will give you a discount if you sign up for an auto-pay plan.

Solution: Direct electronic payment from one's checking account. We don’t have a landline, so it is a necessity to pay our phone bill on time.

Contact your provider and set up direct payments

Cellular providers and cable companies will take payments from your credit card. Electric companies, and banks holding mortgages will not as they don't want to pay a fee. Some people dislike automatic withdrawals from their bank accounts.

Many cell plans will give you an discount for automatic withdrawals.

It probably depends on the provider.

The time that the phone will be shut off also depends on your credit history, mostly whether you have routine late payments. I used to run across accounts shut off within 24 hours from being late with repeated late payments in their payment history.

I checked the provider's web site last night and my payment was there! It was logged Friday.
It showed up on my bank's web site just now (Monday morning).

In the future I'm going to pay in the provider's store. They have a thing like an ATM.

My only beef with those machines is the one in my store will only accept $20 bills. Every time you make a payment they charge a $1.55 state 911 tax. I you owe $2 then you have to pay $20 and pay $1.55 state 11 tax.

If you have pre-paid you can buy top-up cards at Drug store, grocery store, Walmart , or Target. Then you go online and add the Top up card number.
