Not sure this is the right place for this...

I want basic, RELIABLE phone service. I don't need it to take pictures, send text messages, or do anything but let me get phone calls, and take messages when it's off. As simple and cheap as possible.

Any suggestions?

You might want to read this thread from the Other Topics forum for som help.

If it's just basic phone sevice you want, I would check into a pre paid account, but check the terms and conditions.

Page Plus cellular. If you don't use it a lot, you can get by on about $100/yr.

Actually they still do make them like that, you just have to look a little harder.

Tracfone (a Motorola V170)...no contract, no picture stuff, no movies, no Ipod simulation,no games etc, can text message if you want, large enough characters that I can read without having to put glasses on (yes I'm over 40). You can buy and add to air time at many places such as Walmart etc. I've travelled up and down the entire east coat and never was in a dead zone.

Virgin Mobile is even cheaper for light users. $60/year if you let the company charge the service to your credit card account. Virgin Mobile also has very simple phones that can be easily purchased at Target, Best Buy and Wal Mart.
