I'm getting ready to move from Colorado to Arizona (permanent).
What are the pros and cons to changing or not changing my cell phone number?
The one that does not concern me is former contacts, since I don't use my smart phone that often for personal conversation, and most of my business contacts will end.
You nailed it with the cons. Really the only ones.
There's really no reason to change nowadays. Since most exchanges (the first 3 digits of our numbers) across the country were shrunk and added to, everyone is used to 10 digit numbers today.
The one reason to change is new local friends and businesses who use landilines won’t have to pay long distance charges to call you. Plus adding the need to dial an area code is a minor hassle. I’d get a local number to be perceived as a local.
You might not use your smart phone for personal calls, but why? Why pay for a landline? You’ll have to get a new landline number in AZ anyway and let everyone know. Just tell everyone to contact you thru your mobile number. A phone is a phone. I’m 69 and haven’t had a landline for 6 years. No issues. But I digress.

Personal choice - there really isn't a whole lot of difference these days. With overlays, 10 digit dialing is pretty common. And honestly, with cell phones and VoIP, many people don't even remember each other's phone numbers after it's added to their contact list.
That said - it is an opportunity to pick a new phone number if you like the new area code or have the opportunity to choose a number. I had a VoIP service and got a number that was like 301.300.3333 (not the actual number). So I thought it was neat.
I thought of one more Con:
A lot of websites and on-line services use your cell phone as a second-layer of security. You give them your cell, and then they verify it by phoning or texting you. IE: Google asks me every few months to text me to verify it's still me.
Likewise my bank and investment firms.
If you change your number, then all those saved numbers will have to be changed. Not difficult, but it will be a minor hassle.
